Performance Analysis of Communication Systems Formally Specified in SDL
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper first presents the SDL–oriented method of software design and then points out how to handle the non–functional, quantitative design of an SDL–system using performance analysis. Finally, a new tool, named SDL Performance Evaluation Tool (SPEET)1, is presented for the performance analysis of formally specified systems under real–time conditions. SPEET facilitates the simulation and emulation of several formal specifications at the same time. The systems to be simulated, resp. to be emulated, can be triggered by traffic load generators and can be interconnected with transmission links which correspond to physical channels. The user can easily define probes within the formal specifications. The data of these probes generated during simulation runs, resp. emulation runs, can be statistically evaluated. SPEET provides a new Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) oriented solution for product development using formal methods.

Specification-driven Performance Monitoring of SDL/MSC-specified Protocols
Protocol testing implies the functional analysis of a given implementation under test as well as its temporal performance evaluation. If protocols are formally specified sophisticated techniques and tools exist for analyzing functional properties, e.g. finding deadlocks or livelocks. Methods, however, for the temporal performance evaluation of formally specified systems are still in their infan...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of SDL/MSC-specified Systems
SDL and MSC are standardized specification techniques for the development of reactive realtime systems and protocol architectures. Whereas MSC scenarios only allow to specify the dynamic system behavior in form of event/time diagrams, SDL specifications are used to describe static and functional aspects of the system as well. In this paper a framework is presented which demonstrates the relatio...

متن کاملApplying SDL to Formal Analysis of Security Systems
Nowadays, it is widely accepted that critical systems have to be formally analyzed to achieve well-known benefits of formal methods. To study the security of communication systems, we have developed a methodology for the application of the formal analysis techniques commonly used in communication protocols to the analysis of cryptographic ones. In particular, we have extended the design and ana...
